There is no universal startup price for a travel agency. The amount depends on your country, business model, licences, insurance, team and whether you sell from home, online or from an office.
Build the budget in categories
- Registration, professional advice and tourism licences
- Insurance, deposits or financial protection where required
- Website, domain, email, booking and payment tools
- Brand assets, photography and initial content
- Accounting, contracts and operating procedures
- Advertising, events and partner visits
- Working capital for refunds, supplier deposits and quiet months
Ask authorities and qualified local advisers which items apply in your jurisdiction. Do not copy another country’s checklist.
Start lean, not incomplete
A home-based, specialised agency can begin with a focused website and small software stack. You may not need an office or custom booking platform. You do need accurate records, secure payment processes, clear terms and enough cash to handle disruption.
Plan monthly costs too
Budget for software, marketing, phone, accounting, insurance, contractors and customer support. Then estimate how many bookings and how much gross margin you need each month. Revenue is not profit: supplier payments and acquisition costs must come out first.
Create a conservative six-month cash-flow forecast. The best startup budget is not the smallest number; it is the one that lets you operate legally, serve guests reliably and keep going long enough to learn what works.
